"Drinking is my business, and business is good"

An Introduction
In 2010, Simon ran the Puzzle Hall Inn in Sowerby Bridge and had a glorious 5 years of music festivals & real ale. When his contract with the Puzzle’s owners (a notorious pub company) began to draw to a close he chose to set up on his own. This time without the frustrations of the past, and the Victorian Craft Beer CafĂ© exploded onto the scene. He refuses to stock any of the typical UK brands.

Favourite beer style?
All of them.

Favourite beers?
Magic Rock Precognition, Duchess de Bourgogne, Abbeydale Absolution, Tripel Karmeliet, Vocation’s Divide & Conquer. Anything with Sorachi Ace hops.

Most amazing thing about owning a bar?
I’m amazed that some people only drink one style of beer. How dull must life be?

What’s this bar doing in Halifax?
I often get asked this. Not everything has to happen in Leeds or Manchester. Halifax has some great buildings, so it makes sense to stick a bar in one. If a bar in Leeds has 20 beers on tap, I want 22.

The name Victorian Craft Beer is a bit of a mouthful, isn’t it?
Yes, it is! I wanted a name that sounded so different to everything else. We refer to it as VCBC.
